Do these 4 things now:
- Keep safe around electrics. If water is near lights, switches or the switchboard, keep clear and turn that circuit off at the switchboard if it's safe to do so.
- Catch the water. Buckets, towels and containers. If the ceiling is bulging with water, keep people and pets out of the room.
- Move valuables. Furniture, electronics, rugs and anything that can't get wet.
- Take photos. Inside damage and anything you can safely see from the ground. Your insurer will want them.
Please don't climb onto a wet roof. Wet tiles are slippery and old tiles crack underfoot.
Call Rex directly
For an active leak, a phone call is the fastest way to reach us. Call or text 021 335 103. Rex works Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm. If he can't answer straight away, leave a message with your suburb and what's happening, and text photos of the leak if you can. He'll get back to you as soon as he can.
What we do when we arrive
- Make it safe. Stop the water getting in first, so the damage doesn't get worse.
- Find the real source. Water often travels a long way before it drips, so we trace it back to where it actually gets in.
- Fix it properly. Most leaks on tile roofs come from cracked or slipped tiles, failed ridge mortar or blocked valleys, and most can be repaired on the spot.
- Photograph everything. You get photos of the cause and the repair, ready for your insurer if you're claiming.
Common causes of sudden leaks
- Tiles cracked, lifted or blown out of place in a storm
- Valleys or gutters blocked with leaves, sending water under the tiles in heavy rain
- Ridge caps loosened where the old mortar has broken down
- Tiles cracked by aerial, solar or painting crews walking on the roof
- Branches falling on the roof
What it costs
Urgent repairs are charged as a repair call-out of $175 + GST plus materials. If the roof needs more than a quick repair, we'll make it safe and give you a written quote with photos for the rest before any more work is done. See all prices.
Storm damage and insurance
If the leak was caused by a storm, tell your insurer as soon as you can, and ask whether you can go ahead with urgent repairs. Keep your photos and our invoice. More about storm damage repairs.
We work on tile roofs only
We repair concrete and terracotta tile roofs. If your roof is metal or Decramastic, we're not the right people, and you'll get help faster from a metal roofing specialist.
