What to do after a storm
- Stay safe. Don't climb onto a wet or damaged roof. If water is coming through near lights or switches, turn that circuit off at the switchboard if it's safe to do so.
- Limit the damage. Buckets, towels, move furniture and valuables.
- Take photos of damage inside and any you can safely see outside, including loose tiles on the ground.
- Tell your insurer as soon as you can and ask about their process. Some want to send their own assessor.
- Call us on 021 335 103 to make the roof safe and assess the repair.
How we help with insurance
We'll get on the roof, photograph the damage and give you a written report and repair quote. That gives your insurer clear evidence of what's damaged and what it will cost to fix. Your insurer decides whether and how much they pay. Our job is to make the facts clear.
If the roof needs urgent work to stop more water getting in, we can do that first. Keep the invoice and photos for your claim.
Common storm damage on tile roofs
- Tiles lifted, slipped or blown off, especially at edges and near ridges
- Tiles cracked by falling branches or debris
- Ridge caps loosened where the mortar was already weak
- Valleys and gutters blocked with storm debris, causing overflows
Storms often expose problems that were already there, like old bedding mortar or tiles that were never secured. We'll point out which damage is new and which is wear, so your claim is accurate. Read our guide to roof insurance claims.
