Why gutters matter on a tile roof
When gutters fill with leaves and moss, water has nowhere to go. It spills over the front into your walls and gardens, or backs up behind the gutter into the soffit and framing. Blocked downpipes cause the same problem further down.
On a tile roof, the valleys feed straight into the gutters. If the gutter is blocked, the valley can back up too, and that's when water starts getting under the tiles.

How often?
Once a year suits most Auckland homes. If you're surrounded by trees, as in a lot of Titirangi and parts of Remuera and Epsom, twice a year is safer: once after the leaves drop and again before winter.
What it costs
Gutter cleaning starts from $150 + GST ($172.50 incl. GST). Price depends on the length of gutter, the height of the house and access. Add a moss treatment on the same visit if your roof needs it.
